Videos for Enuresis
This video was made by Rhone-Poulenc Pharmaceuticals Inc. in 1999 to promote the use of its bedwetting DDAVP medication. This short skit of two parents frustration with their bedwetting child is quite difficult to watch. Mostly I guess because it truthfully shows the emotions we feel when our children continue to have a bedwetting problem long after we feel they should have got past this stage.
If you identify with the anger and frustration of these parents, that is very normal. If you speak as these parents do around your child though, I do ask you to read the information in the enuresis section of this site and inform yourself on the causes, prevalence and treatments for bedwetting.
Bedwetting is frustrating but it is not your child’s fault. You can help your child to overcome their bedwetting, but you will need patience, good information and to be able to create a calm environment for your child. Showing your anger and frustration or directing towards your child with punishments or discipline will only make your child withdraw from you and make it harder to gain the co operation you need to commit to the bedwetting treatment options that can cure bedwetting.
A child, especially an older child can be expected to take responsibility and help with cleaning up, without making them feel that this is a punishment. Encourage your older child to read about bedwetting and to become involved in the treatment process. Only they can change the pattern. If you are constantly arguing with your child, they may feel too defeated to begin treatment as they have lost hope that it can be stopped.
This video shows the anger and frustration of two parents who have a bedwetting child. If this strikes a chord, however shocking it is to watch, seek advice here.
