Homeopathy and Enuresis 2

When you read a little about the causes of enuresis you see that it’s believed that development of control is delayed. Homeopathy has two main sides to it which are sometimes a little difficult to understand. I am neither a homeopath or a doctor and my explanation may in fine points be inaccurate, for which I take full responsibility . I hope only to show people why homeopathy can help with enuresis.

The main texts I have read on homeopathy are quite old. New research has taken place since these were written and different views are held as to how remedies should be given. Some homeopaths stick to the Hahnemann (founder of homeopathy) requirements as disclosed in his Organon and others have moved with the times and adopted newer ways.

Hahnemann said to only give one remedy at a time and then wait. If new symptoms then appear, you know what remedy to give next.

However most of the over the counter homeopathic remedies are a mix of possibles, like a multi vitamin is a mix of vitamins. Maybe this is the new better way for people self diagnosing, but in the old texts it was a slap dash approach that clouded the picture perhaps for good, so that a good homeopath could no longer find the right remedy.

For acute ailments quite specific remedies are easily found and given. Acute means an illness that comes on rapidly and needs immediate attention. Chronic ailments in comparison are long lasting illnesses that need continuous treatment or are just endured.

Homeopaths believe that some chronic ailments are caused by past illnesses. The illness may have been experienced by the patient some time ago, or by their parent or even their grandparent. The patient may have no such illness now, but some of the symptoms they have now, may point to a group of symptoms or a miasm, for remedies which deal with these past illnesses. They believe these need treatment, before the “acute illness remedies” for the complaint that brought the patient to the homeopath, may be able to have an effect.

In other words something blocks the action of the remedy that should work. This needs unblocking before the present illness can be treated.

As regards homeopathy and enuresis, especially where the parent had enuresis, enuresis may be a symptom caused by one of these prior illnesses. Perhaps they’ll discover that a gene was damaged then, or something changed during vaccination. I don’t know enough to explain this well, but sometimes using an unblocking remedy can have quite remarkable results on symptoms that a patient thought that they would have forever.

Generally speaking, for homeopathy to cure enuresis, you should look for a homeopath certified with the society of homeopaths in your country, as qualified. In my opinion, you should ask if they use only one remedy at a time and choose one that does. If you can find one with a medical background as nurse or doctor as well, then you have the best of both worlds, but these practitioners are now rare.

I do not recommend you try and treat enuresis using homeopathic remedies without consultating a qualified homeopath.

When you ask for an appointment, see if they have a questionnaire you can fill out. This will start you observing pertinent actions your child may make, while you wait for your appointment. It also means that you will have answers which otherwise you’ll be unable to remember or may never have noted in the first place.

The questions will appear old fashioned and unrelated, but they give a homeopath a picture they need to diagnose. You might think of it as being like an archetype, if that helps. If you can make notes about things like this, it will help in diagnosis and unique, or strange things especially, should also be mentioned.

For example, a child with fever generally always has a red face. But a different remedy for fever will be given to the child who is very thirsty for cold drinks than to the child who has little thirst at all, or to one who asks for a warm drink.

Time is also important. Does enuresis occur in the first part of the evening or deep in the night or just before they wake in the morning.

If you do decide to try homeopathy for enuresis, you may be lucky and find that just one visit does the trick. Or it may take 4-6 visits, if the first remedy appears to be blocked. You will need to observe any changes and tell your homeopath about them, as a first remedy, if incorrect, will also often indicate the true remedy by showing new symptoms.

It isn’t for me to say you should or should not try this, that is your choice to make. There is plenty of better information available than this online to explain how homeopathy works, for enuresis or for other ailments.

I will however say that I have observed crying teething babies instantly soothed with the remedy Chamomilla.  I have seen warts disappear in a few days after Thuja. I have seen earaches magically disappear with Pulsatilla. I have seen a doctor’s look of puzzlement an hour after diagnosing croup when they re-examined a  patient who has been given Spongia to cure croup and the fever and barking cough were all gone and he couldn’t say why.

Small miracles I have seen. Usually people will say this is the placebo effect, but even if this is so, if the cure is effective and non harmful, who cares?

I do know that you don’t have to believe in it to work, because a newborn cannot be convinced that their tummy pain will disappear if I give him a sugar pill. Only the pain going away will make any difference to his tears.

So in my opinion, its worth a few visits to a homeopath and giving homeopathy a try for enuresis. India and England still have a strong tradition of homeopathic practice, the queen supports the hospitals in England and consults a homeopath. On the whole though, homeopaths keep a low profile due to the strong antipathy many medical practicioners have towards them.
