Diapers - Cloth or disposable

They used to be one and half foot squares of towelling cloth, in white for easy bleaching. But diapers now come in all shapes, sizes and colors and bedwetting diapers are no different.

You can still get cloth squares in white, but you can also get them in pastels or in bold reds and greens if you prefer. You can get printed designs on them and you can get prefolds stitched and shaped to fit a child’s body. You can get organic diapers and at your baby shower it’s highly likely you’ll be presented with a diaper cake, a presentation of rolled up diapers shaped in the form of a cake and usually decorated on the top with a stuffed toy.

Neither are you limited to cloth. Disposable diapers come in sizes from newborn to adult. From the basic folded shape, to a true moulded shape (with padding where it has the best effect) and elasticated legs.

Diaper pins have almost become collectable items, as velcro and sticky tabs have taken their place.

Diapers and bedwetting

The product designs for bedwetting diapers are generally divided by gender as the bedwetting padding is concentrated in a different area of the diaper due to the nature of a girls or boys body and where wetness goes when they are lying in bed. Diapers for bedwetting also come in all sizes from small for young children, up and up to teen age diapers, and to a range of adult diapers for bedwetting for both men and women.

It is not essential to use special bedwetting diapers, but the diapers that are actually designed for bedwetting do have less incidence of leakage and help to keep the bed dry and bedwetter comfortable, even if you have a copious bed wetter.

Slimmer or thinner types of diapers or special bedwetting under garments are also available, that look like training pants. Some are waterproofed and other are not.

There are also diapers for swimming that look like swimming costumes.
