Bed Wetting Protection
Various forms of bed wetting protection are available. You’ll discover what they are and what they do in this article.
A bedwetting mattress is a mattress designed specifically to protect itself from accidents. It has a waterproof cover, and a quilted cover over the top.
Such a form of bed wetting protection did not exist when I went through this but I discovered what worked for me by trial and error - after two mattresses without any bed wetting protection!
I found the best option for bed wetting protection was a rubber sheet over the mattress for protection from wet beds. A full fitted washable padded mattress protector over that. If you can’t find fitted, you can get a pad the size of the bed and sew elastic to the four corners so that the elastic tucks under each corner of the mattress and holds the pad in place.
The mattress pad for bed wetting protection should be thick enough to counteract the cold slippery surface of the rubber which is not comfortable with only a sheet over it. You can then use disposable bed wetting protection mats over all this, to cover the main area where urine leakage is likely to occur.
This totally protects the mattress. The disposable bed wetting mat can be discarded if it gets wet. The larger quilted bed wetting pad can be washed if leakage goes over the range of the disposable pad, although mostly this is rare and washing need only be done in a normal washing cycle for any bedding. The rubber can of course be wiped clean with a mild disinfectant.
